Recycling Cooperative
Vitopel has a selective garbage collection project in its facilities in the city of Votorantim that is not only contributing to reduce the environmental impact caused by the disposal of residues, but also creating income opportunities for the members of Votorantim’s Recycling Cooperative (Coopervot), which gathers the region’s collectors of recyclable materials.
"The program collects, every quarter, an average of 17 tons of recyclable products that are meant for Copervot", says Glaucia Steffen, Vitopel’s coordinator of Organizational and Social Communication. Most of the material collected is paper and cardboard (9.7 tons), plastic (7.5 tons) and metal (0.2 tons).
"It is important to emphasize the benefit this recycling program provides to the environment", analyzes Gláucia. The volume of paper and cardboard recovered saved, in the period, 82 trees from being cut, the total of recycled plastic represented saving 132 liters of oil, and the reused aluminum preserved approximately five kilos of bauxite.
